When the weather gets warm a lot of people will decide that they’d like to lose weight to feel more comfortable with less layers on. This is usually a bit late as the saying goes “abs are made in the winter”, to state that most people tend to do all the hard work earlier to not leave it too late.
However, all is not lost. Whilst you may have reached your goal a lot quicker you started earlier, there are some things you can do to save your weight loss goals for the summer. So if you’re just starting your weight loss plan now or its not going as planned then follow some of these tips and get back on track!
1. Cut everything bad from your diet
Desperate times call for extreme measures. This was listed first as it’s the most obvious. If you’re serious about losing weight quickly and your diet isn’t up to scratch then you need to immediately cut everything from your diet that isn’t healthy. This includes junk food, fizzy drinks, unhealthy snacks, etc. For at least 30 days, you need to make sure there is nothing in your fridge and cupboards that doesn’t benefit your weight loss goals.
2. Eliminate salt and sugar
These are two of the main culprits that cause weight gain and bloating, as well as a range of other health issues. Even if your diet is healthy, opt for sugar free alternatives to things you’d usually eat or drink. For salt, don’t eat anything salty and do not add any additional salt to your food when cooking. Instead, opt for a variety of spices to add seasoning and flavour.
3. Raise your activity levels
This should be a lot easier to do with the warmer weather. We won’t overcomplicate it; just be more active. Instead of driving to work, walk or cycle. Instead of sitting down, stand. Instead of watching TV, go for walk or play something with your partner, a friend or kids (if you have them). These things along with your training plan will speed up your metabolism and help your burn fat quicker.
4. Drink less/no alcohol
I know it’s a hard one but your favourite drinks are causing you to gain body fat. There’s a reason why fitness experts call alcohol “liquid calories”. If you’re over 18 and you must have a few drinks, limit it to the weekend and also just to a couple. Stick to that and only drink things that don’t have a lot of calories, such as a lighter calorie beer or a gin and slimline tonic.
5. Drink more water
With the warmer weather it’s natural to drink more water. You should have a normal goal of around 3 litres a day but when its warm your body dehydrates a lot faster and as a result you’ll actually need a lot more than that. Don’t force feed yourself water if you’re not used to it but try and drink 1-2 glasses of water an hour and your body will thank you for it. Not only does it help the body to flush out all the toxins but within a few days it will help ease bloating and help you feel and look healthier.
